FNI’s Executive Director Dr. Gary L. Dunbar Receives CMU’s President Award for Outstanding Research and Creative Activity
On Wednesday, March 16, 2011 Gary L. Dunbar, Ph.D. was presented with the award that was created by CMU for peers to select and recognize outstanding senior faculty members for scholarship of national and international merit.
Dr. Dunbar’s cutting-edge research is among the most advanced in behavioral neuroscience efforts to restore function after central nervous system-related injuries. He is highly respected for his project to incorporate stem cell transplants, dietary supplements and pharmacological treatments for cognitive or motor deficits following brain damage and neurodegenerative diseases, such as Huntington’s, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. His research, which he has presented at conferences worldwide, has been supported by $1.3 million in gifts and grants from Foundations, pharmaceutical companies and the National Science Foundation and National Institute of Health.
